About Turner Seed
In 1961, Bob Turner started Turner Soil Conservation Service, a dozer business that specialized in applying conservation practices to the land. Bob became interested in the different grasses used in pastures and fields. In 1974, he started helping a friend harvest Kleingrass with his homemade brush sweeper. This was the beginning of Bob Turner Seed Company and the entity officially came into being in 1977. The seed company grew when Bob's son Darcy graduated from Texas A&M in 1978 with a B.S in agronomy. Darcy has since expanded the business to native grass seed, wildlife seed and wildflower seed. J Mercer joined the company in 1984. He is in sales and consulting. Bob's daughter, Julie Turner Calkins, graduated in 1985 from Tarleton State University, joined the company in 1988, and now manages accounting and human resources. Jesse Speer joined the company in 2007 and is in sales. Blair Vick and Luke Turner, Bob's grandchildren, joined in 2015. Blair is in sales and production. Luke is in sales and inventory management.
